Hey there! Welcome back to Speak Thai Today. If you're planning a trip to Thailand — or you're already there — I have something that will change EVERYTHING about your experience.
Five simple Thai phrases. That's it. But here's the thing: when Thai people hear you say these phrases, their whole face changes. They immediately realize you actually cared enough to learn their language.
So grab a notebook, or just keep watching. By the end of this video, you'll have five phrases that are going to make your trip unforgettable. Let's go!
0:40 · Phrase 1 — สวัสดีค่ะ / ครับ (Hello)
Phrase number one — and this one you probably already know — is "Hello." In Thai, that's สวัสดี — sa-wat-dee.
But here's what most people get wrong. In Thai, you always add a polite word at the end. If you're a woman, you say: สวัสดีค่ะ — sa-wat-dee KHA. If you're a man, you say: สวัสดีครับ — sa-wat-dee KHRAP.
These little words — ค่ะ and ครับ — they're like the Thai version of "ma'am" and "sir." They show respect. And Thai people LOVE it when foreigners use them.
Let's practice. Repeat after me: สวัสดีค่ะ... สวัสดีครับ... Perfect! Use this phrase every time you walk into a shop, a restaurant, a hotel — anywhere.
1:50 · Phrase 2 — ขอบคุณมากๆ (Thank you very much)
Phrase number two — Thank you. In Thai: ขอบคุณ — khob-khun. Add your polite word: ขอบคุณค่ะ or ขอบคุณครับ.
This phrase is your secret weapon. Every time you tip, every time someone helps you, every time you buy something — use it. And watch how their reaction changes.
3:00 · Phrase 3 — เท่าไหร่ (How much is this?)
Phrase number three is my personal favorite — and it will save you money. "How much is this?" In Thai: เท่าไหร่ — tao-rai.
The vendor will immediately know you've done your homework. You're not just another tourist who points and pulls out your wallet.
4:10 · Phrase 4 — อร่อยมาก (Delicious!)
Phrase number four is the one that will make every street food vendor love you. "Delicious!" In Thai: อร่อย — a-roi.
I promise you, they will smile so big. It might even get you extra food!
5:10 · Phrase 5 — ไม่เป็นไร (No worries)
And phrase number five — this one is very special because it's not just a phrase. It's a whole Thai philosophy. ไม่เป็นไร — mai pen rai.
It means "It's okay," "No worries," "Never mind," "Don't stress about it."
6:00 · Outro
Take these 5 phrases to Thailand — and you will have a completely different experience from every other tourist.
